At least 20 people were killed and another 20 injured following tribal clashes in Adhi Adeye, in Somalia’s Sool region, according to a local officials.
The clashes are reportedly linked to retaliatory attacks stemming from previous confrontations, as well as a longstanding dispute over land between the two sides.
The victims were buried on Tuesday, while local authorities and traditional elders continued efforts to mediate between the rival communities and prevent further escalation.
The latest violence comes as Sool region continues to recover from the conflict that erupted in August 2023 between forces aligned with the Somaliland administration and pro-unionist Khatumo forces, which left hundreds displaced and heightened tensions across the region.
There was no immediate comment from Somalia’s federal government regarding the latest clashes.
