Mogadishu – Somalia – A total of 129 Somali nationals repatriated from Libya arrived in Mogadishu on Thursday after enduring difficult conditions, where they were welcomed by government officials.
The returnees were assisted through a government-supported repatriation initiative aimed at safely bringing home Somali citizens stranded abroad.
Officials received the group at Aden Adde International Airport and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable citizens returning from overseas.
Of the 129 returnees, 19 continued their journey to Hargeisa, their place of origin.
Hundreds of Somali youths continue to risk their lives each year by relying on human smugglers in hopes of reaching Europe through Libya, a route widely regarded as one of the world’s most dangerous migration corridors.
