Mogadishu – Somalia – A court in Somali capital Mogadishu has sentenced former Bajaj taxi driver turned social activist Sacdiya Moalim into three years in jail.
27 years old was already in custody for more than three months before the verdict as lawyers prepare to appeal the sentence.
She is accused of anti government policies made via social media leading to public disorder.
Human rights organization have rejected the accusations and the sentence as well.
On June 8, women-led and human rights organizations condemned the arbitrary detention of Sadia Moalim Ali, who is being targeted by the Somali authorities for her activism both on social media and through her participation in peaceful protests, according to a statement
