Somalia U-17 Women Make History with First-Ever International Victory

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — Somalia’s U-17 Women’s National Team recorded a historic milestone on Wednesday, securing the country’s first-ever international victory in women’s football with an emphatic 8-2 win over Sudan at the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship.


The landmark result marked a breakthrough moment for Somali women’s football, as the young Ocean Stars bounced back from earlier defeats in the tournament to claim a memorable victory.


Najma Mohamed led the scoring with a hat-trick, while Sundus Mohamed added two goals. Hibo Salad, Halimo Isse, and Maryan Osoble also found the net as Somalia delivered an impressive attacking display. Sudan’s goals came through Nashwa Abbas and Fatin Fadol.


The victory is regarded as a significant step forward for the development of women’s football in Somalia, where the sport has only recently begun to gain momentum. Players and officials celebrated the achievement as a historic moment that could inspire a new generation of female footballers across the country.
