
Mogadishu – Somalia’s Council of Ministers has approved a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Egypt aimed at strengthening cooperation in maritime transport and port infrastructure development.
The agreement, endorsed during the Cabinet’s weekly meeting, is expected to enhance collaboration between the two countries in the maritime sector, with a focus on improving port infrastructure, boosting maritime transport, and expanding technical cooperation.
Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport welcomed the approval, describing the MoU as a significant step toward modernizing Somalia’s maritime sector and advancing the country’s long-term development agenda.
According to the minister, the partnership aligns with Somalia’s National Transformation Plan by supporting efforts to improve port efficiency, expand trade connectivity, and attract investment into critical maritime infrastructure.
The agreement reflects the growing bilateral ties between Somalia and Egypt and is expected to contribute to increased regional trade and economic development through enhanced maritime cooperation.
