Former Senegalese President Macky Sall has formally sought the Senegalese government’s support for his candidacy to become the next United Nations secretary-general.Sall met President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Friday, where he briefed him on his campaign and requested Dakar’s official endorsement. The presidency said the meeting reflected the continuity of the state despite political transitions, with Sall pledging to keep President Faye informed throughout the selection process.The visit marked Sall’s first return to Senegal since leaving office in April 2024. Thousands of supporters welcomed him at a military airport in Dakar before he proceeded to the presidential palace for talks with President Faye.After concluding his visit, Sall departed for Morocco, where he has been living since stepping down from office.
