Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has won a second five-year term, securing a decisive victory in an election.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia announced the result in the early hours of Tuesday, declaring Hichilema the winner after he secured about 61.4% of the valid vote. His main challenger, Brian Mundubile, received about 38%.
“I therefore declare Hichilema Hakainde to be president-elect of the Republic of Zambia this 18th day of August, 2026,” commission chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis said.
The result gives Hichilema another five-year mandate after his victory in 2021.
