Mogadishu – Somalia – The National Communications Authority (NCA), in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), today launched the first Somalia Submarine Cable Landing Technical Working Group (TWG) Workshop, bringing together telecommunications operators, submarine cable providers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and technical experts to strengthen the resilience and sustainable development of Somalia\u2019s submarine cable infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Held under the IFC-supported Somali Unlocking Sector Investment Project (Broadband Infrastructure Project), the two-day workshop aims to deepen engagement between the regulator and industry stakeholders, promote a shared understanding of challenges facing Somalia\u2019s submarine cable sector, and identify practical measures to improve the reliability and resilience of the country\u2019s broadband infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants are discussing key issues including outage management, market competition, infrastructure development, and implementation of Somalia\u2019s submarine cable regulatory framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The workshop also reviewed findings from the recently completed report on Somalia\u2019s telecommunications market, giving stakeholders an opportunity to validate recommendations and help shape priorities for the sector\u2019s future growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Opening the workshop, Director General of the National Communications Authority, Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, highlighted the strategic importance of stronger coordination across the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSubmarine cables are the backbone of Somalia\u2019s digital connectivity, supporting economic growth, innovation, and access to essential services. Through this Technical Working Group, we are strengthening collaboration between the regulator and industry stakeholders to build a more resilient and reliable communications infrastructure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
